Presidents Message 2011 – 2012 Season

Well it has been a long off season for the team but a productive one. This season not only starts with a new arena to play our home games but a whole new coaching staff as well. This season has all the makings of continuing where the team left off last year. We have approximately 85 % of the championship team from last year returning and a great looking group of individuals stepping in to replace those spots that were left vacated. I would also like to say that without the support of you the fans and our great sponsors this team would not be able to exist. So let’s have a great year and hopefully repeat what was started last year and come home with the big prize.

Coaches Report

This season marks a season of new beginnings for the Cold Lake Ice Jr. B Hockey organization. After a tremendous season last year with a combined regular season and playoff record of 40-2-0-1 under Coach Paul Desjardins and staff, the organization has turned to some new faces to lead and continue their winning ways.

This season marks the seventh season that I have been a part of this great organization, with five years of being on the ice and two behind the bench. This has really given me the upper hand in knowing the everyday workings and the ins and outs of the league. Learning from some great coaches before us, my staff and I bring a youthful exuberance to the organization and the players. Bringing in two former alumni, Assistant Coach Brad Paice brings an upbeat knowledge on the defensive side of the game, while Kyle Szydlik fresh off last years roster will be taking over the role of Trainer. Corey “Gaunch” Wandler comes to The Ice with great experience and knowledge on the offensive side of the puck, and newcomer Cody Eyolfson will be taking over as Equipment Manager. These new faces, along with the returning ones, look to continue the winning ways of the previous years and share the ultimate goal of erasing our provincial downfall from one year ago. Last years coaching staff, including myself, were very disappointed in our showing in Leduc last season. Our main goal is to get back to the Provincials that are hosted in Okotoks this year and show the province our true calibre of hockey. This year expect a fast-pace hard hitting exciting team that looks to continue and bring exciting Jr. B action to the Lakeland area.
