BONNYVILLE, AB (July 23, 2019) - Lakeland Catholic School District (LCSD) is partnering with the Cold Lake Junior B Ice to launch a hockey program at Assumption Junior/Senior High School in the upcoming school year.
The partnership, exclusive to Assumption students, will provide a unique learning experience that focuses on skill development and athletic leadership excellence. The Cold Lake Ice will be responsible for the sport and athletic component, while Assumption will focus on providing the integration of academics. The program is centered on skill development helping students improve their academic, athletic and leadership skills through high quality programming.
Deputy Superintendent Pamela Guilbault said, “Lakeland Catholic is pleased to offer programming that utilizes the expertise within our community. When we can build relationships with community partners, while diversifying programs for students, we ensure that our students receive relevant, innovative authentic learning experiences. This continues to be an important priority for our Board.”
The aim of the program is to keep student athletes in their home community while they are in high school and assist them in developing the skills required for post-secondary scholarships in athletics.
LCSD is beyond excited to partner with the Ice as they are known for hockey excellence. This is a cutting edge opportunity for our students and we look forward to being able to offer it in the upcoming school year. Principal Mrs. Chantel Axani said, “I am thrilled with the partnership between Lakeland Catholic and the Cold Lake Ice. At Assumption, we work hard to develop the whole student: social, emotional, spiritual and academic. I am proud of how well Assumption works to offer programming that appeals to a broad range of student interests. With LCSD’s support, we are now able to add another option to our athletics program, one that I know Cold Lake hockey players and their families will embrace.”
“The Cold Lake Ice Organization, the Board and coaching staff are looking forward to the upcoming year and the partnership we have formed with Assumption School. This is a great opportunity for current Cold Lake Ice Jr. B players to help out in their community while providing a unique educational program to local youth,” said Cold Lake Ice President Dale Laursen.
Starting this fall, the new hockey program is being offered to both male and female junior and senior high school athletes at Assumption Junior/Senior High School in Cold Lake. There is space in the program for twenty-four students and registration will be done on a first come, first served basis.
A parent information session will be held on Wednesday, August 28 at Assumption Junior/Senior High School (5209 - 48 Avenue, Cold Lake) at 6:00 pm. If you would like to register, please contact:
